Finally, a “Spring Classic" for those of you who don’t particularly like riding on dirt roads.
The Fleche Buffoon is our tribute to the Ardennes Classics (Fleche Wallone, Amstel Gold Race & the oldest of the classics, Liege-Bastogne-Liege). It is a circa 75 mile hilly ride through the Bucks County, PA & Hunterdon County, NJ countryside. The challenging course features 14 steep climbs over its route. Along the way there will be miles of country roads, scenic farmland and quaint river towns.
In true Amstel fashion, there will even be an authentic Dutch windmill along the course (in Holland Township nonetheless). Again, this course is entirely paved, no dirt, unlike our other Spring Classics, the Hell of Hunterdon and the Fools Classic.
Registration opens on January 27 at 7:00 pm EST.
This is a very hilly ride. According to Ride with GPS the course has 6100' of elevation gain over 75 miles. The course will feature:
- 2 Covered Bridges
- 2 crossings of the Delaware River (the course is in Bucks County, PA & Hunterdon County, NJ). Paddles not required.
- 14+ steep climbs (some of them are “avoided” by and large by the local riders)
What goes up, eventually comes down. Thus in addition to the difficult climbs, there are plenty of fast and technical descents. Participants should exercise extreme caution, particularly due to the many pot holes caused by this past winter's weather.
Please note the 2016 Ride does not have any aid stations; but there are plenty of stores & restaurants on the course. These will be indicated on the cue sheet and in the GPS Data.
